Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and well know actor Sam Shepard was arrested and locked up in the Santa Fe County jail held on suspicion of aggravated drunken driving.
Police officials say that Shepard was arrested Monday evening outside La Choza restaurant located in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The 71-year-old Shepard, who currently stars in the Netflix series “Bloodline,” allegedly told a police officer that he had around two tequila drinks and was planning to drive himself home. The officer could smell the strong order of alcohol on Shepard’s breath and the actor had appeared to have very bloodshot, watery eyes.
Santa Fe police Lt. Andrea Dobyns says restaurant security called police after becoming concerned about a man who might be severely intoxicated. The man was trying to leave in a pickup truck, but the vehicle’s emergency brake was still completely engaged.
Police say Shepard declined to take a breath test, but he did perform a field sobriety test, which he failed.
If you are going to go out to drink please don’t drink and drive. Take a cab or a designated driver with you.
