Last Man Standing may be getting a reprieve from cancellation since CMT is in talks to rescue the popular yet canceled ABC series.
Talks have been going on between the network and the company which owns the canceled Tim Allen comedy television show. The main hold up right now is the show has a pretty heavy price point and the cable network is attempting to secure the rights at a price point they feel comfortable will make them a profit. It pretty unclear if a deal can even be reached because the show owners seem unwilling to budge from their steep asking price for the veteran comedy series. It is also unclear if a revival does happen if it will be for a short run or the standard multiple season 20 run episode run.
Back in May ABC canceled the multi-camera comedy and many fans took to the Internet to express their disappointment since the cancellation seemed to be a result of political affiliations. Last Man Standing’s cancellation was the biggest surprise to come during the upfront decision-making of the network. Tim Allen tweeted that he was “stunned” and “blindsided” by ABC’s decision to cancel the show. Reportedly he had been assured by people behind the scenes that a seventh season was coming.
Allen also said: “Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed.”
ABC did claim the main reason for the cancellation was they decided to move on from having a comedy block on Friday nights since it canceled Dr. Ken. Also, Tim Allen reportedly was seeking a large bump in pay during his recent contract negotiations and the network deemed his requests unreasonable.
Last Man Standing did have a pretty loyal fan base even though it was placed in the “Friday night death slot”. The show had a 1.7 rating among adults 18 to 49 and 8.3 million viewers which if they are able to retain even 75% of those viewers Last Man Standing would be CMT’s highest rated television show.
We will keep you posted if any more news comes out about the possible move to CMT.
