Comedienne Phyllis Diller passed away in her sleep today in her Los Angeles area home at the age of 95, Diller who's best known for cracking jokes followed by her trademark cackle was found dead in her bed by her son Perry Diller. The official cause of death has yet to be released.
Diller performed in various nightclubs and many television shows spending from the 1950s all the way until she retired back in 2002. She was one of the very first female comedians and pave the way for all of today's female comics.
Back in 1999 Phyllis Diller survived a near fatal heart attack which caused her to have a pacemaker installed. It was this incident that led to her retirement from standup in 2002. After her retirement Diller occasionally took on some small parts in movies and TV shows most notably family Guy.
She published her autobiography, "Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse," in 2005. The 2006 film "Goodnight, We Love You" documented her career.
No funeral plans for Phyllis Diller have been released but I have a feeling one of her famous sayings about her life will be her epitaph "I want people to laugh.". That she did and will always be fondly remembered for it.
