A couple of ill-famed television characters on NBC’s Smash are supposed to leave the show for good at some point into season two and we are told it’s going to be quite the sendoff with both characters getting what’s coming to them. Karen’s cheating fiancée Dev (Raza Jaffrey) and Eileen’s devious assistant Ellis (Jaime Cepero) won’t be regulars in Smash’s 2nd season, sources say with each only appearing enough to wrap up their storylines then be written off.. The new showrunner Josh Safran apparently decided to listen to Smash’s fans and he discovered that neither character was well liked so they will be written off in the show’s new-and-improved second season.
According to the poll Dev annoyed fans by cheating on Katharine McPhee’s character by sleeping with Ivy, while Ellis infuriated viewers throughout season with his overeager nefarious scheming. Fans have been pretty outspoken that the second season would be better off without either Ellis or Dev. The other characters that fans wanted off the show and thus far NBC hasn’t chosen to remove from the show were Julia, her husband Frank and son Leo. Those roles are played by Debra Messing, Brian d’Arcy James and Emory Cohen.
NBC plans to return Smash in midseason, in order to give the new showrunner time to creatively polish the series and have given him the authority to let any of the shows actors or actors go if they do not fit his vision for the show.
