He may have earned the nickname “King of 4th of July weekend” but now Will Smith is being called by a few less pleasant names such as “egomaniac” and an “asshole” by one of his former ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ co-stars.
Janet Hubert who played the original Aunt Vivian on the series when it started in 1990 was noticeably absent from a recent cast reunion, and said she would not want to be included because she’s still very upset at being fired from the show, something she blames Will Smith personally for.
She said: “There will never be a reunion – as I will never do anything with an asshole like Will Smith. He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.”
Hubert, 55, was replaced on the show by Daphne Maxwell Reid in 1993, actually blames her release from the comedy series on the fact she wasn’t willing to suck up to Smith, who had become the star of the show aged just 22.
Smith, now 43, has previously stated he thinks Janet had a bad attitude, and refutes the idea he was personally responsible for her departure.
He said in a radio interview shortly after she left: “Janet said once, ‘I’ve been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.’ No matter what, to her I’m just the Antichrist.”
