The directors chair of The Hunger Games franchise once occupied by Gary Ross isn’t even cold yet and were told that the director’s job for the sequel titled Catching Fire has been offered to Francis Lawrence. (No relation to Jennifer Lawrence just in case you were wondering)
You may remember Francis Lawrence after all he was the director who brought I am Legend to the big screen. Were told he beat out several contenders including Bennett Miller recently did the film Money Ball and several other top tier directors.
For those of you who read the book Catching Fire is actually set in a much larger, more exotic surrounding than that of The Hunger Games which suggests to us that Lionsgate may have chosen Lawrence due to his proven ability of handling large-scale visual effects sequences while at the same time giving them a sense of style. He won’t have very much time to prepare however, since Lionsgate has Artie said the release for the next film at November 22, 2013 and must be finished shooting by December of this year in order to give it’s star Jennifer Lawrence time to begin production on the sequel of XMen: First Class.
Now I would rather have seen them figure out a way to keep Gary Ross but I do feel that Francis Lawrence is a solid replacement given his history so I’m sure the next film will be just as good if not better than the first.
