Harry Morgan was a uniquely talented actor and charismatic human being. I was saddened by the news of his death today at the age of 96, and even though I never met the man deep down it was almost like losing a member of my own family.
Harry Morgan was probably best known for his portrayal of Col. Sherman Potter on one of televisions best shows ever Mash. His arrival at the 4077th wasn’t planned and like most of the characters on the show I was fully prepared not to like Col. Sherman Potter but he actually became my favorite character on the show. Morgan’s character did something that is nearly impossible to do in television his character replaced the beloved Henry Blake and overtime became possibly even more beloved a feat that is unheard of in television.
Morgan was also well known as Gannon, the partner of Jack Webb’s Sgt. Joe Friday. And the list of films he appeared in is incredibly impressive, including “High Noon,” “The Ox-Bow Incident,” “How the West Was Won” and “The Shootist.”
Rest In Peace Mr. Morgan. The world lost an amazing talent and a wonderful person today. We’re thankful for the laughs and memories you gave us and for that reason you shall live on in our hearts and lives for generations to come.
