While the sequel to The Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t expected to hit theaters until 2017 fans of the hit superhero movie you have something to look forward to. Disney XD has announced that The Guardians of the Galaxy will be given new life in the form as an animated television series.
Test footage for the series was shown at New York Comic-Con on Friday, where Marvel announced the series and showed off the poster for the series. Not surprisingly, the five main characters — Peter Quill (aka ‘Star Lord’), Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot — look just like their counterparts for the newly released “Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes 2.0” edition video game.
“This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe by developing the first-ever ‘Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’ animated series,” Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb said at the unveiling. “Everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew — now they’ll get it.”
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t the first animated Marvel superhero show to appear on the network whose lineup already boasts: “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble,” “Marvel’s Hulk” and “Agents of S.M.A.S.H.”
The animated Guardians of the Galaxy television show is expected to debut in early 2015 so make sure that you have your recently released baby dancing Groot toy’s ready.
