Police responded to a 911 telephone call around 10 o’clock this morning and police responding to the scene found Junior Seau’s body inside a bedroom with a gunshot wound to his chest. Paramedics attempted to revive the football star but were unsuccessful pronouncing him dead at the scene.
Seau was just 43 years old and is survived by four children and his ex-wife. We’re told Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and kids yesterday saying, "Love you." They all responded, but didn’t suspect anything was wrong. We’re told he last saw his kids 3 weeks ago.
Considering the recent rise in suicides among former NFL players one has to wonder if concussions sustained throughout his career could have led to the decision to hand his life. Other players such as Ray Easterling and Dave Duerson chose to end their lives in similar manners thus preserving their brain tissue for further concussion syndrome testing.
If you recall back in 2010 it had been reported that Seau attempted suicide by driving his SUV off of a cliff following an alleged domestic violence incident something that the footballer later denied but now I have to wonder if maybe that was just a warning sign foreshadowing this horrible event.
I’m completely shocked by Seau’s death and my thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. I am truly sorry for this loss.
