Legendary ‘Archie’ Artist Tom Moore dies at age 86

Archie comic illustrator Tom Moore has passed away at age 86 in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.

Moore is the artist who gave Archie comics its signature look and worked on the comic from 1953 to 1988. Moore began his career as a cartoonist while serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Legend has it that Moore drew a caricature of his Captain and was called into the Captain’s office as a result. Moore was offered a job as a staff cartoonist on the spot because the Captain love the drawing.

He joined the staff of Archie comics and drew the iconic teenager and his group of friends, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Moose, Reggie and Sabrina.

Moore also worked on the cartoons Snuffy Smith, Mighty Mouse and Underdog.

Thank you, Mr. Moore, for giving us such great and funny characters to make your day a little bit brighter. You will be missed.
