NBC turning the Red film franchise into a drama, though sadly Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich won’t be involved

It’s beginning to seem like movies only exist so that cash-strapped studios can turn them into TV shows later down the line. NBC is no exception. They just announced that they’re turning the film franchise Red into an hour-long action comedy series.

Just like the two movies, the TV show will focus on the lives of retired intelligence operatives and their struggle adapting to life after the C.I.A.

Jon and Erich Hoeber, who wrote both the 2010 film and its 2013 sequel will be writing the show, and  will probably gain some empathy for their cast of older characters as they struggle to do the things that they’re accustomed to doing, while operating under the constraints of a much-reduced budget.
