Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps set to race shark

23-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Michael Phelps is taking on a new challenge and it’s pretty awesome. This time Michael Phelps may not be the greatest swimmer in a race and I for one like that.

Thanks to Discovery Channel’s Shark Week Michael Phelps will be appearing in the Shark Week season opening episode titled “Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White”.

The Discovery Channel issued a press release talking about the show with Michael Phelps saying “The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark – the race is on!” They went on to really try to build up the Shark Week event stating “an event so monumental that no one has ever attempted it before” and said that Phelps “has one competition left to win.”

The 31-year-old Olympic gold medalist who also happens to be possibly the greatest human swimmer who ever lived will also appear in the Shark Week finale, attending Shark School along with experts who will teach Phelps and viewers how to safely dive with sharks. That episode most notably will be demonstrating Phelps teaching viewers how to stay calm when a hammerhead shark swims just 2 feet above his face.

Who do you think will win the race? Personally, my money is on the shark but we will have to wait for the greatest week on television Shark Week before we find out.
