This year I was fortunate enough to attend second annual Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest. This year had more guests than last year, and that is what made this year awesome. In addition to Karen Gillan (unfortunately Graham McTavish had to cancel) we had Kevin Sorbo, Fireflies Sean Maher, and Torchwood’s Gareth David-Lloyd.
This year’s exhibitors expanded threefold compared to last year’s and it made for a very eclectic group from artists to soap makers to metallurgists, I was blown away by the amount of talent that these people possessed. I would like to send a shout out to a few that really caught my attention.
Kate’s Comic Geekery -they have etsy shop, and what really caught my attention about them is their themed heels. The amount of work and care that goes into each set of heels even really stand out, no pun intended, and the great thing about them aside from the quality of work is that making make the heels customizable. You can find the link here.
The Nerdy Wino-what I liked about them aside from their great personalities is their headpieces. They looked delicate and very fairy like that possessed a very strong form of metal that really impressed me. Photo below and link here.
Pezzy Rings-they are a comic con regular but that never fails to impress me with their chain mail jewelry and in abundant colors I can honestly say that their bracelets are a must have. You can find the link here.
I was only able to attend to panels this year and I was fortunate enough to get a front row seat for two very funny people. Sean Maher and Gareth David-Lloyd. Below are some photos I was able to take during both panels.
Sean made a very humorous entrance and I knew that it would be a very funny panel. What stuck out in my mind, and the fact that is much more handsome in person, is that he was very dedicated to his family. He also mentioned that Phoenix had much more fans approach him and mention his role in Much Ado about Nothing. He also mentioned how is his days on Firefly has him somewhat reenacting his character role with his children. He also said how much he enjoys hearing how he has affected people’s lives for the better as coming out, and giving people strength in coming out themselves. Definitely a nice guy, but he did have me wondering if there was any alcohol in his tea.
Gareth shocked everyone by coming in the front door. There was a mention of the previous day of him giving a geography lesson on how Wales is not in Canada. Then there were the stories. Oh boy. I can’t really repeat them, but I can say this: How does John Barrowman not get arrested?! I’m looking forward to Eve Myles when she comes to Comicon 2016 and hear her stories. How does John Barrowman not get arrested?
All in all a great second year, I can’t wait until the next one!
