Um. who want’s to go go see a Power Ranger movie on the big screen? That’s the question that’s been popping up across social media after Lionsgate announced that it will be releasing a reboot of
the ’90s-spawned action franchise: Power Rangers, July 22, 2016.
The film which is ditching the “Mighty Morphin” tag, follows a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are writing the script from a previous story they penned with executive producer Roberto Orci. The film will premier the same weekend as Warner Brothers ’King Arthur, and it will come less than two months after the next installment of a different retro children property, Paramount’s Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles 2.
I wonder what will be the next property to hit the big screen to fill our 90’s nostalgia appetite, perhaps The Fresh Prince of Bel–Air movie? Who cares? Can Hollywood please just give us something that’s good and original. Thanks.
