Nobel prize-winning and inspiration behind the Russell Crowe film A Beautiful Mind passed away today along with his wife in a taxi accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.
John Forbes Nash, Jr. and his wife were in the back of a taxi cab when the cab driver tried to pass another vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike and lost control crashing into a guard rail. Nash and his wife Alicia were both ejected from the vehicle and were not wearing seatbelts.
Nash was a brilliant mathematician who, unfortunately, suffered from paranoid schizophrenia as documented in the movie starring Russell Crowe which won an Oscar the best picture.
Back in 1994 Nash won the Nobel Prize for economics for his enormous contribution to game theory. He also was a well-loved professor at both MITand Princeton University.
Nash was 86 and his wife Alicia was 82. They had been married for 60 years.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
