TLC has finally canceled its long-running reality show “19 Kids and Counting” almost two months after the news came out that Josh Duggar molested his sisters and other girls as they slept inside the Duggar home.
The reality series “will no longer appear on the air,” the network told the Associated Press on Thursday. TLC said it’s joined with two well-known child-protection organizations to help raise awareness about child sexual abuse culminating in an hour-long documentary that will air on the network next month.
The show focused on the Duggar family, who adhere to a patriarchal Christian movement called Quiverfull and was on the air for 10 seasons.
TLC pulled “19 Kids and Counting” off the air in May after Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal made national headlines, but the show sat in limbo and was not officially canceled until this week.
TLC still can’t seem to escape sexual scandals because another show, “Cake Boss,” was renewed in January despite sex assault charges against a former cast member.
Maybe it’s time for networks to pull the plug on reality TV. Just a thought.
