Hugh Jackman a.k.a. Wolverine in the X-Men movies said he used to cry when he heard Lionel Richie’s Penny Lover being played because when he was 16 years old he was dumped by a girl named Penny. The actor talked about the effect of the song in the new book Dear Me: A Letter to My Sixteen-Year-Old Self, in which he is one of the contributing celebrities who wrote a letter to their 16-year-old self. Jackman wrote “There will come a time when you get over Penny dumping you at the bus stop. In fact you will see her in a couple of years and wonder why you cried every time you heard the Lionel Richie song Penny Lover”. Jackman said after a time he eventually got over it.
The Real Steel star went on to say proposing to his wife Deborra-Lee Furness in 1996 is one of the best decisions he ever made in his life. The couple now have two adopted children Oscar, 11, and six-year-old Ava. In the Book Jackman also added “Love life? (spoiler alert) You will meet an incredible woman, and the choice to marry her will be the easiest choice of your life. Just listen to your gut,” he added.
