Woo-Hoo! The Simpsons Duff Beer to hit the market

THE SIMPSONS: Homer's new boss, Duff Industries chairman H.K. Duff (guest voice Stacy Keach) gives him advice on how to be the new Duffman in the all-new ÒWaiting For DuffmanÓ episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, March 15 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Rejoice beer drinkers the Simpson’s Duff Beer will be purely fictional no longer! The world famous beer will be hitting shelves beginning in Chile, and later more of South America and Europe by the start of 2016, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Beer vendors have been attempting to put out their own versions of the animated famous brand Duff Beer for years, but had to pull them from shelves when they got cease-and-desist letters from 21st Century Fox (The Simpsons’ owner). The company is now working with a brewmaster to perfect the beers flavor.”It’s a premium lager,” Jeffrey Godsick, president of the company’s consumer products division told the paper. “It’s got a very good balance of flavor and refreshment to it. It’s fairly deep golden in color. It’s got a hint of fruit to it. It’s got a caramel aromatic to it.” But even if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a cold one, don’t expect it to be a full Simpsons experience. The aim is for the packaging and marketing to stand on its own and not reference the show at all. Besides, having Homer hawk beer could be seen as advertising to children.

Unfortunately, in our own domestic market (outside of the Simpsons sections of Universal’s theme parks), there is and will not be any Duff beer available for at least the next few years. Though, Fox isn’t ruling it out. “I think there’s potential to have Duff everywhere in the world,” said Godsick.

Fox chose to start off in Chile because it had been fighting unauthorized versions of the beer in the country’s market with some success, though demand for the illegitimate versions has amped up across the region from Colombia to Mexico. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em?

I wonder how many people will be planning trips to Chile just to sample the favor of beer of their beloved animated characters. After all who doesn’t want to be like Homer Simpson and knock down a few cold ones num num num.
